I really enjoyed ‘fixing’ this photo – although, if I took this I would have been pretty darn happy! To tell you the truth, the only thing I would have had to change was the brightness…the rest was just pure fun!
Here is the orginal photo…
I use Photoshop CS3 and actions from the Divine Sheye Rosemeyer and also from Totally Rad. This is the first time I have played with CS3′s lens flare filter as I am a super sucker for lens flare. While I think it worked ok (I used it in the last Fix), I do love my all-natural camera lens flare…
I have tried to explain what I did for each fix. Sorry there are sooo many but I think you all know by now that I do love to play with actions etc!
Fix-It Number One
1. Adjusted Brightness using Curves
2. Cropped left side of photo
3. Lowered saturation using saturation slider in hue/saturation to -22
4. Ran action from Totally Rad called Luxe (hard), tweaked that action
5. Ran action from Totally Rad called Select-O-Pop.
6. Selected pen tool on layer mask of Select-O-Pop, used white brush at 20% opacity and brightened eyes
7. Ran action from Totally Rad called Luxe (soft), tweaked that action
8. Ran action from Eye Candy called Rounded Corners – medium
9. Saved as a .png file to preserve rounded corners transparency
1. Cropped Photo heavily on both sides and top
2. Ran Eye Candy Pretty Gritty Action omitted Grit and Punch
3. Dodged both eyes
4. Ran Eye Candy Lemon Fresh Overlay Action and adjusted from 30% opacity to 70% opacity
1. Ran Eye Candy Light Switch Action
2. Heavily crop left side of face
3. Crop small amount from top of frame and right side of frame
4. Run Eye Candy Pale & Interesting Action and tweaked it quite a bit
1. Cropped to square format
2. Ran Eye Candy Light Switch Action
3. Ran Eye Candy Dandelion Overlay and adjusted opacity to 100%
4. Ran Totally Rad Dirt Lip Texture and adjusted opacity to 45%
5. Dodged both eyes to brighten
6. Burn hair on right side of frame to darken
1. Crop left side of frame
2. Ran Totally Rad Troy Action and tweaked
3. Ran Totally Rad Brooklyn B&W Action and tweaked
4. Ran Eye Candy Lemon Fresh Overlay
5. Added Noise
6. Added Lens Flare
And that’s it! I would love to know if you guys like any of these and if you do, which one do you like best? If you don’t like any – well pffft to you! lol lol but I would be happy to know why as well.
Head on over to I heart faces to see loads more fixes!
Cheers
Kate

Whenever I look at other edits I think “dang – you had the RAW file”. It’s really no wonder my kids always challenge every tiny bit of discipline with “yeah well YOU” or “yeah well SHE”. I know there’s a psychological term for this behaviour but am too scared to dig the books out and label myself. Oh dear.
I love your second one the bestest and the mostest but your fourth one just proves finally that people do stuff with eyes I cannot begin to fathom.
The blinding moment of self-revelation I’ll just take away with me to therapy if that’s OK-dokay…

I meant your first edit – duh! I wa counting from the original.
I love the last one the best! Although the 4th is also great. If you look closely you can see a lady in red taking the picture =P
Your edits are so versatile! With each one, it’s almost as if a different side (personality-wise) is highlighted, even though we know it’s the same subject, the same photo.
I especially love #2, your crop in #3, and the colors in #4.
I love all of your edits! Where do you get all of your actions from? That last one is amazing…though 2 & 3 are really great too…oh, forget it…they’re ALL my favorites

Awwww, thanks so much. My most favourite actions in the world are by Sheye Rosemeyer. Her Eye Candy Actions can be found here but they are not free. My other fav actions are from Totally Rad and they can be found here. They also cost money. Pioneer Woman does fab actions that are free. I have some and use them at times. Just depends on my mood. I think that because I PAY for actions, I want to actually use them more!
Cool edits! I love how creative you are!
So many great edits, but your first one with the washed out colors is awesome!
ooh, I’m a sucker for lens flare too. Nice!
My favs are 1, 3, & 5!
But 3 is the tops! I really like the soft effect and colors! Looks like you had a lot of fun!!
The first and the last ones really strike me as awesome, nice job!
Love #5…..all are great but this one my fave……love your little bubble comment box too!
I love the lens flare – something I’ve been playing around with a lot lately too. It’s hard for me not to do it to every photo . . . I’m a little addicted as of late . . .
wow. love that added lens flare. i’m just realizing that i want to experiment with that effect. so much to learn, ya know?
Completely in love with your blog – looking forward to sitting down tonight with some water and fruit (…iced coffee and cake ssshhh!) and looking through your amazing images, Thank You, Vanessa xx
Love your edits Kate & the lens flare, might have to have a play with that myself!
